Rick Lewis is the creator/author/musical arranger of the hit Off-Broadway musical, The Taffetas, which premiered at the Cherry lane Theatre and subsequently moved to the Village Gate, with productions currently around the world. Television appearances include 48 Hours, CBS This Morning, Entertainment Tonight, PM Magazine, and Live! with Regis and Kathy Lee. With The Taffetas he was featured in People Magazine, Time Magazine selected The Taffetas as 'Critics Choice' for four consecutive weeks. He was nominated for a Jefferson Award For Outstanding Musical Direction for his work on the Chicago production of The Taffetas.
Mr. Lewis also created the male version, The Cardigans - Those Swingin' Singin' Guys From Alpha Mu Phi Pi, which premiered at Westbeth Theatre Centre, and for which he received a New York Bistro Award for Outstanding Musical Revue. Rick directed the Florida premier of The Cardigans, as well as the Tokyo production, A Cardigan Christmas.
Rick wrote the theme song for the Democratic National Committee's bid for the 1988 Presidential Convention. He has written and produced music and productions for Honeywell, MGM/UA ("Great Musicals on VHS"), and Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, He produced and directed LifeVoices, the 1st Annual "Cable Positive" benefit for AIDS research at New York's Village Gate, starring Terrence McNalley and Barbara Feldon. He served as Assistant Conductor/Vocal Director on the workshop production of Tony winner Cy Coleman's Tony Award winning Broadway musical, The life, as well as casting pianist for Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine for the original Broadway production of Sunday In The Park With George. Other hit shows include Have A Nice Day! - A '70's Musical Flashback, a spoof of Up With People, utilizing pop hits from the 70's, which premiered at New York City’s Theater East, and G.I. Jukebox, a 1940's Stagedoor Canteen!.
A Taffeta Christmas, the sequel to the Off-Broadway hit, has been mounted in theaters across the country and is becoming a holiday staple in regional theaters. Rick is currently at work on an original (book/words/music) Country/Western musical spoof entitled The Saga of Dusty's Blues, to premier in Fall of 2003. |
